Obituary of Marion-Evelyn-Grace-Windham Carter

Marion Evelyn Grace Windham Carter went to be with the Lord in Heaven on January 5, 2015. Evelyn was born a tiny miracle, weighting a mere 3 pounds at birth on August 28, 1915, in Madrid, Alabama. Growing up during the depression era, Evelyn was determined to get an education and nurture others. That is just what she did, graduating from Florida State Nursing College. After school, she was a blessing to our country by serving as a nurse in the United States Army in World War II. Serving her country was a true testimony of Evelyn's unselfish dedication to humanity.Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Chester Allen Carter, Sr. They met after the war on a blind date and soon moved to Panama City after marrying December 31, 1947. Evelyn and Chester were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church of Panama City, Florida. Continuing her true affection, Evelyn was a devoted Charge Nurse at Bay Medical Center until her retirement in 1980.As a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Allen Carter, Sr. and son, Peter Duncan Carter. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Carter Hill, and son, Chester ""Bubba"" Allen Carter, Jr.; four grandchildren, Ruby Hill, Dr. Brook Hill, Christal Wagner and Melanie Carter; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Ashley Grace, Isobel, and Carter.Funeral services will be conducted today, Friday, January 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Panama City with Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating. The family will receive friends today beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Red Bay Cemetery, Red Bay, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Panama City in memory of Evelyn W. Carter.
