May 28, 2009 Marilyn L. Roberts, 65, of Camillus, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, in Crouse Hospital after a courageous eight-year battle with ovarian cancer. Marilyn was born in New Hartford, New York, and graduated from New Hartford High School and Potsdam State Teachers College. She taught sixth grade in the East Syracuse-Minoa School District for 39 years. She was predeceased by her parents, William L. and Beatrice V. Roberts, and a brother, Stanley E. Roberts. She is survived by two brothers, Donald W. Roberts of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Wesley (Beverly) Roberts of Rocklin, CA; her sister-in-law, Lucille Roberts of Binghamton, NY; her best friend and caregiver, Bonnie Bechtle; a niece; several nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Marilyn was a 40-year member of James Street United Methodist Church and a member of the senior choir. She had chaired several church committees, including Outreach and Hospitality. In 2001, Marilyn was instrumental in founding the Time to Climb tutoring program at the church, which had continued under her leadership. A celebration of Marilyn's life will be Monday, June 1, at 10 a.m. in James Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roosevelt Baums and the Rev. John Fulton officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery in New Hartford, NY. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
