Higgins1921-2014Marie Grace Higgins, 93, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Pensacola, FL, after a brief illness.Born June 24, 1921 to Lester and Lois Collins Kipple in Zanesville, OH, Marie was preceded in death by both parents; her only sibling, sister, Esther "Pete" Orr of Boynton Beach, FL; and the love of her life for almost 50 years, her husband, Edward D. Higgins.Marie came to Florida at the age of 9 and grew up in Tampa. After marrying, Ed and Marie traveled across the country with the military for more than 20 years and settled in Delray Beach, FL and Boynton Beach, FL after retiring—although retiring meant more traveling, but this time without orders. Marie and Ed enjoyed and were active members of the Eagles, Elks, and the American Legion of Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and Lake Worth, and the Air Force Sergeant's Association. Marie attended the First Presbyterian Church in Boynton Beach, FL and Transformation Church and Crown Church in Pensacola, FL. An amazing cook, accomplished seamstress, and incredible gardener, it has been said that Marie could "plant a chair and grow a love seat". She will also be fondly remembered for her feistiness, determination, and belief that life was for the living and you ought to have a good time while doing it.Marie is survived by their adopted daughter, Caroline (George) Klages, of Pensacola, FL; three grandsons, Thomas Davis, and William and Edward Klages of Pensacola, FL; nieces and nephews, Janet (John) Martin of Gainesville, FL, Jack (Brenda) Orr of Micco, FL, Jimmy (Lisa) Orr of Chattanooga, TN, Jill (Brian) Combs of Clarkston, MI; and God-children, Barbara (David) Pitts of Dalzell, SC and Timothy Orr of Altha, FL.A service celebrating Marie's life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Crown Church's new location, 9600 North Palafox Street in Pensacola, FL. In time, Marie's ashes will join Ed's at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.The family wishes to thank the congregations of Transformation Church and Crown Church and their many friends in the community for enriching Marie's last years and the staff of the Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice Facility for their wonderful care during her last days.
