Obituary of Marian-Smith Carter


Carter, Marian SmithMay 22, 1927 - Jun. 24, 2013Marian Smith Carter, of Sarasota, died on June 24, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas E. Carter, her sons, Jeffrey (Kay) and Scott (Clare) all of Sarasota, and son Jonathan (Laura) of Seattle, Washington, and six grandchildren. She was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio where her family owned and operated the Smith family restaurants. She graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle Indiana, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After college, Marian married Thomas of Lakewood, Ohio and they resided in the Cleveland area. They moved to Plainfield, New Jersey in 1963 and later to Short Hills, New Jersey where she raised her three sons who all graduated from Millburn High School. After Thomas retired from his position as a financial analyst with New York Life Insurance Company, they moved to Sarasota in 1987. Marian will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
