After a brief illness, Marguerite Rollins Williams died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the age of 92. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Randy Thompson will officiate, and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.Born on Nov. 11, 1916, in Dalton, Ga., to Thomas Oliver and Martha Adelaide Wood Rollins, she graduated from Dalton High School as their 1934 valedictorian. After graduating from Georgia State College for Women, she married George W. Williams on May 15, 1941, and moved to Tuscumbia. She began her teaching career in 1949 as a third-grade teacher at Cave Street Elementary School and later served as the first librarian there and at Northside School. Until her retirement from Tuscumbia City Schools, she was an active member in the local and state librarians' association and Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers' honorary organization. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship leader, Circle leader and president of Women of the Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Williams.Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Nimon and husband, Richard, of Huntsville; grandson, Wesley Nimon and wife, Melissa; great-grandchildren, Thomas Wesley Nimon, Mary Claire Nimon and Oliver Lee Nimon; nieces, Mae Whitson Christy and husband, Ed, Gay Martin and husband, John, Jo Musselwhite and, husband, Wayne, Jan Akin and husband, Steve, Mary Lynne Sawyer and husband, Allan, JoAnn Clow and husband, Ray, Peggy Warnsing and husband, Don; and nephew, Lee Shults and wife, Denise.Pallbearers are Wayne Musselwhite, Mac Musselwhite, Russell Martin, John Martin, Ed Christy, Warren Johnson, Andy Thompson, Harold V. Hughston Jr. and James D. Hughston.Memorial contributions may be made to the G.W. Williams Scholarship Fund for the education of ministers or the Joy Trump Hamlet Music Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 103 N.
