Obituary of Margaret Williams


Margaret Sumner Williams, 87, formerly of Southview Drive, Laurens, and current resident of Bailey Manor in Clinton, widow of James Scott Williams, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at North Greenville Hospital in Travelers Rest.Born in Goldsboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Annie Bell Jackson Sumner. She retired as the first woman ever employed with the Laurens County Sheriff's Department. She was formerly employed with The Greenville News and the Clinton Chronicle. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church and the Business and Professional Women's Association.Surviving are a daughter, Susan Burke and husband, Steve, and grandson, Jason Burke, all of Oregon, Wis.; and a niece, Marsha Phillips and husband, Kent, of Clinton.Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at Laurens City Cemetery, conducted by Rev. James Fox.The family will be at the home of her niece, 63 Nottingham Road, Clinton, and will receive friends this evening at The Kennedy Mortuary from 7 to 8.Memorials may be made to the Atonement Lutheran Church, 413 W. Farley Ave., Laurens, SC 29360; or to Bailey Manor, 300 Jacobs Highway, Clinton, SC 29325.The Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens.
