Groton - Margaret Peters, 94, of 205 Elm St., Noank, passed away on Tuesday evening, Dec. 27, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London.She was born in New York City on Aug. 4, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Gula. Margaret was the widow of James D. Peters who passed away in Oct. of 2006.Margaret had been a secretary in the Groton school system and she had served on the Groton Board of Education. An avid golfer, she was a member of Pequot Golf Course and had made three holes in one. She and her husband also enjoyed wintering in Melbourne, Fla. Marge discovered her talent as an artist and shared her gift with her many friends and family.Margaret is survived by her daughters, Carol Kane of Middletown, and Jean McKeown of Kearny, N.J.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her brothers, Lee Gula and Joe Kuzyk; her stepfather, Theodore Kuzyk; and stepbrother, Theodore Kuzyk Jr.The funeral service and interment will be private.Byles-Groton Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Mystic River Homes Congregate for providing a safe and happy home for Marge the past few years.Please visit www.byles.com to leave a condolence note for the family.
