Obituary of Margaret-P. Williams


Margaret Peel Poindexter Williams, 88, Sheffield, Ala., formerly of Russellville, Ala., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Mitchell- Hollingsworth nursing home, Florence, Ala.Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 18, 1912, and reared in Eufaula, Ala. She was a graduate of Alabama College for Women (Montevallo) earning a B.S. degree there and later earning a masters degree from UNA. She began teaching in Russellville in 1934, where she met and married Edward LeRoy "Prof" Williams, principal of Russellville High School from 1927-1957. In 1963, she moved to Jacksonville, Ala., to be a librarian for Jacksonville State University. Upon retirement in 1978, she moved back to Russellville to be close to her family.She was a member of First Baptist Church of Russellville, a member of American Association of University Women, and Poindexter Society. She was a former member of Russellville Study Club and Booklovers Club. She served on the Russellville Library Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with Charlie Britnell officiating. Burial will be in Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville, Ala. Visitation will be Monday, May 7, 2001, from 5-7 p.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville.Survivors include son, Henry Carlton Memorials may be made to the Russellville Library or the American Cancer Society.
