Margaret-Murphy Davenport, born in 1920, spouse of William-W. Davenport, mother of William David and Elizabeth Jane, died on February 29, 2012 at 92 years old.
DAVENPORT, Margaret MurphyAge 92 of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Davenport, whom Margaret married in 1947. The marriage lasted 64 years until his death, April 10, 2011. Margaret grew up in Old Hickory Village and could recall all sorts of lore about 1930's and 40's Nashville. Margaret was a graduate of Lipscomb College and Peabody College, where she earned B.S. and M.A. degrees (and was Miss Peabody, 1941). She taught in the Nashville school system for more than thirty years, focusing on children with special needs. Before teaching, Margaret was an American Airlines stewardess and survived a DC-3 airliner crash landing on a Long Island beach in 1947. Margaret is survived by her son, William David Davenport; daughter, Elizabeth Jane (Don) Blanton; grandson, Alexander Blanton and sister, Libby Davis of Dallas, all of whom miss her very much! For the past several years, the excellent, compassionate care of Mrs. Paula Brown and Mrs. Wanda Hutchins allowed her to remain at home with family in the final years of her life. Contributions may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, where she had been an active member since 1949. There will be a Memorial service Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Road. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. NASHVILLE FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, (615) 256-1605.
