MORRIS - Margaret Mary (nee Clement) of Welland, calmly passed away in her 99th year at the United Mennonite Home in Vineland on 5 March 2007. Nana is remembered with fondness and understanding by grand-daughter, Kimberly of Toronto and grandson, Rick of Calgary, and by son, Ralph and daughter-in-law, Carole of Fenwick. She was predeceased by her second son, David; her older sister, Lillian Clement; and her husband Stan. Margaret was born on November 15, 1908. Early memories were of a farm near Lipton, Saskatchewan, and of visits to their home by members of the Sioux Nation from the nearby Qu'Appelle Reservation. Her memories included the hail, wind and dust of the dirty thirties, but also the summer flowers of Saskatoon and winter sunrises viewed from their Milroy apartment home. Margaret married Stanley Thomas in 1937 at Lipton, Saskatchewan where Stan held a teaching position. The early 1940s were war years and Margaret moved with her flight-instructor husband and two sons to homes in Rivers, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. She served for many years as the organist of Presbyterian congregations in North Battleford and Saskatoon, and was the longest serving organist at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon. She continued her interest in music after moving to Welland in 1999 following the death of Stan. She enjoyed entertaining the residents of St. Charles Village, a rest and retirement home in Welland, with her organ and piano playing, and with her illustrated talks of trips taken around the world. Margaret lived a life of courage and never quite recovered we think from the accidental death in 1960 of her youngest son, David Clement Morris. A poem, selected by her well before her death, reads: Afraid of what? To feel the spirit's glad release, To pass from rain to perfect peace, The strife and strain of life to cease. Afraid to see the Saviour's face, To hear His welcome, and to trace, The glory gleams of wounds of grace, Afraid of that? A Memorial Service will be held from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Our family wishes to acknowledge with grateful thanks the compassionate care and understanding of all staff members at the United Mennonite Home that helped with her care.
