SUGARS, Margaret Mary B.A., Dip. Ed., M. Ed. 21 December 1940 - 29 October 2006 Died at Canmore, Alberta. Margaret is survived by her spouse, Dr. John George Sugars; her sons, Dr. William Sugars and Mr. Benjamin Sugars; her daughters-in-law, Dr. Mini Dua and Ms. Heidi Sugars; and grandchildren, William and Rebecca, Benjamin and Emily. Others left to mourn are Dr. and Mrs. Bhagwhan Dua, Lethbridge, Dr. Manjula Hansen and Dr. Fred Hansen, Red Deer (Natasha, Megan and Elise), her sister-in-law, Ms. Michelle Kelly and her nieces, Ms. Caroline Kelly-Barany, Ms. Kristina Kelly and Ms. Georgina Kelly, Southport, Australia, Dr. and Mrs. William Sugars, Dr. Danielle Sugars (Dr. Michael Ghosn), Dr. Clare Sugars, Dr. Kate Sugars and Mr. Luke Sugars, Australia; Ms. Clare Donovan and Mrs. Betty Hinrichs-Roxburgh. Margaret was predeceased by her father, Dr. John Augustine Kelly, her mother, Mrs. Molly Kelly-Roxburgh, her brother, Dr. John Peter Kelly and her beloved aunt, Margaret Roxburgh. Margaret was born and raised in Ayr, Queensland, Australia and attended boarding school at Lourdes Hill College, Brisbane before residence at Duchesne College, University of Queensland. After two years of high school teaching in Canberra and Brisbane, Margaret and John married on May 1, 1965 and left Australia permanently in October, 1966 when John was posted as a Medical Officer to the Australian Embassy in Athens, Belgrade and Vienna over a five-year period. It was during their European postings, that both their sons were born. In 1971, the family moved to Canford Cliffs, Dorset where Margaret returned to teaching and John completed post-graduate degrees in Psychiatry. In 1976, Margaret and John migrated with the boys to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada where they spent twenty-three wonderful years living and working in Alberta. Margaret taught many grade levels with the Lethbridge Public School District No. 51 and was very proud of the eleven years she spent on Provincial Executive Council of the Alberta Teachers' Association as a representative for the teachers of south-west Alberta. It was during this time, that Margaret became most highly politicized, always striving to improve and promote public education in Canada and abroad. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church, 617 Main Street, Canmore, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2006 with Interment to follow at the Canmore Cemetery.
