TUFTONBORO - Margaret "Peg" Kelleher, 85, of Tuftonboro, died Dec. 27, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family and her faithful golden retriever, Alice, after a period of declining health. She was born in Newburyport, Mass., to W. Haven and Marion (Ilsley) Brown. A 1946 graduate of Newburyport High School, she went on to receive her bachelor's degree in 1950 from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., where she was captain of the equestrian team. Her teaching career began in Buffalo, N.Y., and continued to the Newbury, Mass., and Hampton school systems. In later years, she was a teller at the Hampton Cooperative Bank. She had resided in Tuftonboro with Paul, her husband of 62 years, for 15 years; previously residing in North Hampton for 44 years. Her passions were animals, gardening, travel and the Red Sox. For many years she raised and showed collie dogs, imparting her love of animals to each of her children. Her extensive gardening talents were envied by many. She enjoyed time with various garden clubs and was a Fuller Gardens volunteer. She was always making new friends, particularly during extensive travels in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. A month-long trip in New Zealand was perhaps her most memorable visit. She volunteered her time at both the Exeter and Huggins hospitals, was a member of the Friday Morning Breakfast group and the Melvin Village Hikers. Along with her husband Paul, she is survived by her son Craig Kelleher of North Hampton, NH, her daughter Laurie Kelleher of Epping, and her daughter Beth Kelleher of Keene, and many grand dogs. . services: Visiting hours will be 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday Jan. 5, 2014, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro.
