JOHNSON-In memory of Margaret Teresa Johnson (nee Byrne) who was born on February 27, 1919 and departed this life on April 5, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Born in Hill of Beath, Cowdebeath, Fifeshire Scotland to Irish parents who had immigrated to Scotland to open the coal fields there, Margaret herself immigrated to Canada via the Aquitania ship as a war bride in April 1946 to settle in Hart Saskatchewan (later Coronach) with her husband Clifford Johnson (d). She was predeceased by her parents; all her brothers and sisters; daughter Mary Margaret; son-in-law Geof Moisiuk and grandson Colby Moisiuk. Margaret is survived by her son Patrick Joseph (Regina), Michael John (Annette Rousseau) of Brooks Alberta; daughter Beverly Ann (Basil Fritz) presently in Hohaut China, James Johnson of Yorkton; daughter Julie Deborah Johnson-Moisiuk (Regina) and son Brian (Moose Jaw); nine grandchildren Teresa, Brent, Shawn, Michelle, Chad, Wade, Trisha, Curtis and Maeghan and seven great grandchildren Zane, Jordan, Alexandra, Cassandra, Skyler, Haleigh, Kayden, Cole and Brandon. She is also survived my many nieces and nephews in the UK and by her many friends in Coronach. It is with heavy hearts indeed that we share the news with you that this amazing woman of great inner strength has left our lives as she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie and friend to all who she encountered. She came to this country as a young woman, war bride and Veteran herself who had served in the Navy in Edinburgh, Scotland aboard battle ships. At her knee, her children all learned the Scottish/Irish songs and poems of her childhood and heard stories of "the wee folk," the political strife in Ireland and of our heritage across the Atlantic Ocean. She had a fine singing voice herself and was often asked to sing at weddings and funerals and sometimes at dances she would belt out tunes and refuse to return the microphone to the band much to the delight of the audience. She loved a good visit and a wee blether with her children and friends whether in person or on the phone and specifically was a competitive crib card player challenging her sons and sons-in-law to the game. Even during her last day on this earth, she chirped that she "could take her son Mike down in a game of crib." Margaret, "Maggie" moved to Regina in 2000 to be closer to services and her daughters, living independently on her own until this month when she began a planned move into her youngest daughters' home for support and some care. She was an independent, feisty woman who taught her children morals and obligations to their brothers and sisters who journey with us in this life. She was not one to whine and feel sorry for herself and just "Got On With It," whatever the circumstances were and she taught her children the same. No mother was better; or finer and we love her dearly with all our hearts. Her absence now has left a void that is indescribable by words in any language. She did not have worldly possessions or wealth. She was a frugal, simple woman but her greatest treasures were her honesty, laughter, her inner joy, and great love and sense of purpose in keeping us all together and teaching us right from wrong. In true fashion now she has gone ahead to guide and to wait for us. A FUNERAL MASS will be conducted Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin des Porres RC Church on 4720 Castle Road, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3. Family and friends are invited to sign a book of condolences online at www.reginamemorial.ca . Arrangements are entrusted to
