Margaret Joan Stewart July 9, 1950 January 13, 2010 Joan passed away at St. Paul's Hospital much sooner than anyone could have expected. She was one of the bravest and strongest people that we will ever encounter in our lifetime. Joan will always be remembered with great love by her devoted husband of 39 years, Larry Stewart, her son Jeff (Joleen) Stewart, daughters Shelene Stewart and Erin (Shawn) Robson. She will always be an angel overlooking her very precious grandsons, Jacob and Ben Stewart and Miller Robson. She will be a shining star above her new grandson that will enter this world in February. Her father-in-law, Russell Stewart, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn (Donna) Stewart and Ken (Audrey) Stewart will always remember how generous and thoughtful Joan was. Bob (Betty) Duncan, Pat (Debbie) Duncan, Jim (Lorna) Duncan and Heather (Dave) Rempel will always remember their sister Joan as their angel on earth and they already miss her more than words can express. Joan had many nieces and nephews and many, many loyal friends. Joan was predeceased by her father and mother, William and Dorothy Duncan and her mother-in-law, Dorothy Stewart. Joan was a very special person and it didn't take long for anyone to realize how compassionate and caring she was. In her many years spent as a Registered Nurse with Saskatoon Public Health, she was able to share her compassion and knowledge with many clients. She loved the babies and young families that came through her door at work. Her nursing friends became her personal friends and they meant the world to her. Being a co-owner of RE/MAX Saskatoon, she was able to add a personal touch to the business. The years of family winter holidays in the Rocky Mountains and summer holidays spent at Atton's Lake were a highlight in life. She loved the skiing all day and the meals spent with friends at the end of the day. She loved the cabin at the lake, with days spent at the beach, skiing and swimming, and the nights of campfires and weiner roasts. Joan and Larry travelled to many different countries around the world with various family members and friends. There were always good stories to share. They also enjoyed their holidays at the condo in Puerto Vallarta. The grandchildren were such an important part of her life. Jacob would bounce up and down on the spot, just at the thought of spending time with his Grandma. Ben sometimes didn't want to go back to his own home. Miller gave her the big smile every time he saw her. She treated them with such respect and gave them special, personal attention each time she saw them. Joan's friends were very important to her. To fill the house with friends and family was much better than ever sitting quietly with a book. Her years of curling hold terrific memories. The weekly games and the bonspiel fun brought many laughs. Joan was caring and selfless. She was very generous and extremely loyal. She thought of everyone else throughout her illness. She was not afraid for herself, but she did worry how everyone else around her was coping. She always wore her smile and carried on in her very classy way. Joan was so very courageous. She was surrounded by family and friends constantly throughout her journey with cancer ---all wanting to help --all wanting to give back. Joan had an amazing spirit and grace ... and her memory will live on. A special thank you goes to all of the doctors and nurses that helped care for Joan during this difficult time. Your compassion was appreciated. To all of Joan's family and friends --thank you for your support and love. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Saskatoon Funeral home on Sunday, January 17 at 7-9pm. The Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010, at Knox United Church in Saskatoon at 2 pm. There will be a graveside service for Joan's family, friends and local community at the Rockhaven Cemetery on January 19 at 12 pm. Joan loved all children and there was a special place in her heart for them. Memorial donations may be directed to The Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan at www.childrenshospitalfoundation.sk.ca or #1 345 3rd Ave. South, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6.
