Margaret Catherine Harris, C.M. (15 February 1921 15 June 2006) Born and educated in Galt (now Cambridge) ON, Margaret served in the RCAF (Women's Division) 1943 1946 as a Pay Accounts Clerk. She married in 1946 and in 1947 she came to make her home in Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Lillian Gibb; her brother, Kenneth Gibb; her daughter, Janet (Merv) Gray and her infant granddaughter, Heather Gray. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Dr. Arthur Harris; her son, David Harris in Seattle; grandsons, Michael Harris in Vancouver, Ian Harris in Victoria, James (Sheryl) Gray and Kevin Gray in Saskatoon; granddaughters, Erin (Jay ) Simpson in Eston and Lindsay Gray in Saskatoon; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Samantha and Emily Gray in Saskatoon; a large extended family; and many dear friends. Margaret was active in Grosvenor Park United Church, the Local, Provincial and National Councils of Women (President in 1980 1982) and Saskatoon YWCA. She was an Honorary Life Member of the International Students Club, University of Saskatchewan and Patron of the India Canada Association. She served on the Saskatoon Social Planning Council, Saskatchewan Advisory Council on the Status of Women (Chairperson), Saskatoon Public Library Board, the Saskatoon Foundation Board of Trustees (the first female member), the Board of Trustees of the Saskatchewan Pension Plan, member of Council of Trustees of the Institute for Research on Public Policy and others. She received many Honours and Awards, including the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal, the Governor General's Persons Award, the Order of Canada, the Governor General's 125th year of the Confederation Medal and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. She was inducted into the Saskatoon Women's Hall of Fame. But above all she was a loved and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Grosvenor Park United Church, 14th Street and Cumberland Avenue. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saskatoon Community Foundation, 101 308 Fourth Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2L7 or to the YWCA, 510 25th Street East, Saskatoon, S7K 4A7.
