MargaretElizabeth Phillips passed away on January 3, 2009 in Tallahassee, Florida, from congestive heart failure. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. Margaret was born in Bartow, Florida, on October 7, 1932, where she grew up and graduated from Summerlin Institute (Bartow High School) in 1950. She majored in Home Economics at the University of Maryland where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. In 1953, Margaret married Jerry N.Phillips, an Air Force pilot at Bartow Field. They traveled the world and lived in Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, Michigan, Guam, Arizona, and Florida. She was a homemaker, a golfer, a Girl Scout Leader, and an active member of the Officers' Wives Club, the PTA, and the Garden Club. After Capt. Phillips death in Vietnam in 1970, she moved back to Polk County with her three children and settled in Lakeland. After completing a Science of Accounting degree at Polk Community College in 1973, she worked for FMC in the Payroll Department until her retirement. She moved to Tallahassee, Florida in May of 2008 to be nearer to her grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Capt.Jerry Newton Phillips; her father, Benjamin Harrison Webster; and her mother, Gladys Margaret Webster. She is survived by daughter, Laura Lynn Phillips of Mountain Home, Idaho; daughter, Cindy Phillips Donelan and son-in-law, Richard Donelan of Tallahassee; son John, Webster Phillips, of Orlando; grandchildren, Lawton Campbell, of Virginia; Victoria Elizabeth Donelan and Tom Donelan of Tallahassee; sister, Alice Webster of Orlando; and niece, Dawn Chabot of Orlando. She is also survived by many dear friends, including those at Fellowship Baptist Church, Lakeland. Culleys MeadowWood Funeral Home is in charge. (850) 877-8191.
