Mason, Margaret EdwardsFeb. 6, 1921 - Jun. 12, 2012Margaret Edwards Mason of Osprey, Florida, formerly of Worthington, Ohio, passed away June 12, 2012. She was born February 6, 1921 to the late Avarina and Daniel E. Edwards. After graduating as valedictorian of Bexley High School in 1939, she attended The Ohio State University where she was an active Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Major General Raymond E. Mason, Jr., USA (ret.), and sister Virginia Hecker. An avid golfer, tennis player and traveler, she also gave of her time and resources to various organizations promoting education, the arts, and humanitarian endeavors. She was particularly interested in the New College of Florida, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the Ringling School of Art and Design, the Florida West Coast Symphony, Friends of the Myakka River, the Sarasota County Women's Resource Center, United Way, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, the Mote Marine Laboratory, State College of Florida, Cumberland College, Alice Lloyd College, Hillsdale College, Berea College, University of Rio Grande, The Ohio State University and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. She attended Church of the Palms. She was honored to have received The Ohio State University Everett D. Reese Medal, an honorary Doctor of Humanities from Cumberland College, the Columbus Foundation Harrison Sayre Award, the Salvation Army Schoenbaum Humanitarian Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is survived by her sons Raymond E. Mason III of Columbus, Michael D. Mason of Asheville, NC, and Bruce R. Mason of West Hollywood, CA and a niece Pamela Galipault of Worthington. A Celebration of Life and interment will be at a later time. Donations in her memory may be made to the Women's Resource Center, 340 S. Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34237.
