BEETLES, Margaret (Marg) (nee Davis) Passed away suddenly at home in Ottawa on Thursday, July 28 in her 90th year. Beloved mother of Linda Brazeau, cherished family matriarch and treasured by her friends. Born April 24, 1916 in Carbonear, Newfoundland. Margaret received her schooling in Carbonear and St. Bride's College, Littledale, St. John's. She joined the Naval Forces of Canada in October 1943 and served as WREN in Supplies at H.M.C.S. Avalon (St. John's), Conestoga (Galt, Ont), Cornwallis (Digby, N.S.) and Stadacona (Halifax) until discharged in September 1945. She met her husband Harry (Lt. Cmdr. H.G. Beetles, MBE) in Halifax and after his naval assignments in England and in Ottawa, they settled in Ottawa. Harry passed away in 1963. Margaret joined the Central Pay Office, Government Services Canada in 1959 and retired as Supervisor in 1981. Her retirement years brought enjoyment in travel, landscape painting, playing bridge with her dear friends, visiting the casinos, and learning the computer when she turned 80. Margaret was a member of the Churchill Seniors' Club and the Ottawa WREN Association. She was predeceased by her sister Mary (Mame) Ellis, and brothers George and Frederick. Margaret's bold and fearless approach to living a kindly and considerate life of as much enjoyment as possible was and remains an inspiration for all who knew her. A private Committal will be held on Friday, August 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Remembrance Services (2500 Baseline Road at Greenbank) and a Celebration of Her Life reception will take place on Saturday, August 6 at 12:00 noon at the same location.
