Obituary of Margaret Brown


BROWN, Margaret Louise (nee Gibson) Died peacefully in the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care Unit, Nov. 3, 2006. Born in Tuberose, Sask., July 17, 1921 and grew up on the family farm. In 1940 she commenced nurses training at the Vancouver General Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1944, followed by a diploma in teaching and supervision from the Univ of Manitoba in 1948. She was a dedicated nurse, with eleven years serving in hospitals, public health agencies and the V.O.N. in Vancouver, Saskatoon and Prince Albert before starting a family in 1955. Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Chester, of 53 years and daughters Barbara (Keith) of the Slocan Valley, Marilyn and granddaughter Barbara of Saanichton and son Robert (Denise) of Edmonton and many nieces and nephews, mostly in Sask. She is predeceased by her 5 brothers, Doug, Raleigh, Tom, Bill and George, all of Sask. Known to her many nursing friends as Gib or Gibby, she attended the 60th anniversary for the VGH graduating nursing class in April of 2004. After marrying, Marg lived 5 yrs. in Prince Albert, 6 years in Regina, 12 in Ottawa where she was actively involved with Girl Guides and United Church activities. She and Chester moved to the Sidney area in 1977, where she continued volunteer activities with the Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed travelling in her retirement, with trips to Scotland exploring her Sinclair family roots, as well other parts of the world. Marg was a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, friend and neighbour and beloved aunt. She touched many lives, always giving generously of herself. She was kind, caring. nurturing, understanding and wise and will be missed by all who knew her. At her request, there will be no formal tribute until the extended family can gather in Kyle, Sask, next summer for a celebration of her life and burial of ashes in the Gibson family plot. The family extends sincere thanks to Marg's companion, Daisy Miller, and to the staff of Extended Care at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their kind and compassionate care 315083
