NORTH BENNINGTON - Margaret "Peggy" Butler White, 85, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the Watson House in North Bennington. She was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Charles William and Matilda F. (Woods) Butler. She received her education in North Bennington and was a graduate of North Bennington High School. In earlier years she was employed in the accounting office for New York Telephone Company. She married Paul Roberts and was employed for many years as personnel and payroll manager at Polygraphic/Garrison Corp. and also worked part-time as a waitress. In 1970, she married Clayton White. Together they started a construction company in Lake Wales, Fla. When they retired, they built a home beside the Lake Wales golf course.She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mount Anthony Country Club in Bennington and Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales, Fla. At the Lake Wales Country Club, she was club champion in 1985 and in 1988, she achieved a 132-yard hole-in-one. She also enjoyed bowling and in earlier years, bowled in the Girls' Green Mountain League. She enjoyed baking, gardening, fishing and camping.Survivors include a son William Roberts, and a daughter Patricia Roberts Waters, both of North Bennington; a stepdaughter Patricia Crowell of Lake Wales, Fla.; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, July 5, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
