Obituary of Margaret-B. Miller


MOIR (WILSON), Margaret B., Born December 16, 1916 in Toronto, passed away peacefully at North Lambton Rest Home, Forest, Ontario on Wednesday, June 1st, 2005. She will be greatly missed by her son, Dr. A.M. Lex Wilson (Ellen) of Sackville, N.B. and her daughter, Diana Wright (David) of Forest, Ont., her son-in-law, Ken Barnes (Pat) of Salt Spring Island, B.C. and her step-daughter, Diane Chambers of Niagara Falls, Ont. Her daughter, Donna, predeceased her in 1992. Grandma Moir had a special pl ace in the hearts of all her grandchildren; Jennifer Wilson (Andrew) in Halifax, N.S., Dr. Joshua Wilson of Calgary, Alberta, Dale Wright (Carolyn) of Beaverton, Ont., Karl Wright (Chantalle) of Guelph, Ont., Rick Wilson (Sarah) of Hope, B.C., Rob Wi lson (Elizabeth) of Salt Spring Island, B.C., Debbie Spadzinski (Andrew) of Stevensville, Ont., and Charlie Chambers (Kelly) of Niagara Falls, Ont. Great-grandchildren Troy, Kyndra, Alicia, Vanessa, Haley, and Jasmin, Matthew, Benjamin, Braden and Ri ley. Margaret will be missed by her brother Richard Miller (Shirley) of Elgin, Ont., sisters Florence (Jack) Mississauga, Ont., Iris Howe (Tom)of Bethany Beach, Delaware and sister-in-law Eva Miller of Streetsville, Ont., and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters, Mary and Olive, brothers Doug and Jack, and most recently by her dear cousin, Voy Harper. Margaret always said she had been so fortunate to have been married to two wonderful men. She was predeceased by R.S. Meade Wilson in 1 949 and by Ed L. Moir in 1989. She worked tirelessly as the secretary-manager of the Ontario Golf Association from 1954 until 1973, where she was known as the "den-mother of golf in Ontario. In 1967, the Province of Ontario honoured her for her contr ibution to Sport. Upon her retirement from the OGA, Margaret was honoured by the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association and the Royal Canadian Golf Association for her contributions to the game of golf. Her second career was as an artist. She pic ked up a brush for the first time at the age of 61, and painting have her great joy and satisfaction for the rest of her life. Her life was celebrated by her children at a private graveside cemetery at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines, on Frida y, June 3rd, 2005.
