Margaret B. Davis BRUNSWICK - Margaret ‘Peg' B. Davis, 85, of Oxford Road died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Evanston, IL, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Morrison Babcock and Margaret Shippen Babcock and the wife of Dr. Martin T. Davis. Peg was raised in Chevy Chase, MD and has resided in the Troy area since 1959. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and earned her bachelor degrees in English and Journalism from George Washington University in 1949. She and Dr. Davis were married January 3, 1950. Peg loved music. She began playing the violin when she was 3 and became an accomplished violinist and pianist. She played first violin with the Washington, D.C. Youth Symphony and then first violin with the Bridgeport, Connecticut Symphony, and later played with string quartets in the Albany area. She sang with the George Washington University Glee Club and later directed many choral groups. Peg joined the Junior League of Troy in 1960 and won the coveted Junior League Volunteer Director of the Year in 1966. Peg was a sustaining Junior League member and a past Board member and past President of the Troy-Cohoes YWCA, a founder and Board member of the Junior Museum of Rensselaer County, a past Board member of the Visiting Nurse Association, past Board member and President of the Brunswick Historical Society and past President of Ilium Literary Club. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary for St Mary's Hospital and Samaritan Hospital in Troy and member of the Rensselaer County Historical Society. She was a member and past President of the Women of St. Peter's Church in Albany, a past regional representative in New York State for the Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. chapter and a two term elected member of the Great Cathedral Chapter of The All Saints Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, N.Y. Peg, with her family, was a member the Country Club of Troy, NY and the Fort Orange Club of Albany. She participated in many sports like skiing, tennis and was an avid bridge player. Survivors in addition to her husband, include her 3 children, Christopher L. (Theri L. ) Davis, South Burlington, VT, Gregory S. (Rita) Davis, Boulder, CO and Cameron Anne Davis, Charlotte, VT; her grandchildren, Finn C. Davis, Charlestown, MA, Ian D. Davis, Tahoe City, CA, Benjamin W. (Cambria Matlow) Bach, Portland, Oregon, Fletcher H. Bach, Brooklyn, NY, Timothy M. Davis, Boulder, CO; her great grandson, Forrest E. Matlow Bach, Portland, Oregon; her siblings Penelope B. Laingen, Bethesda, MD and James Babcock, Virginia Beach, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 A.M. St. Peter's Episcopal Church 107 State Street Albany with Rev. Paul Hartt, Rector, officiating. Entombment will be in St. Peter's Church Columbarium Albany. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Margaret B. Davis to St. Peter's Episcopal Church 107 State Street Albany, NY 12207.
