->AUGUSTA -- Margaret Lampson Davis, 91, of East Vassalboro died on Friday, March 24, 2006.She was born in Providence, R.I., on Jan. 14, 1915, and was the daughter of Walter H. and Margaret Tait Lampson of East Vassalboro.During her youth, the family lived in Providence. Following her schooling in Rhode Island, Margaret served for 13 years in the Marine Corps during and after World War II, including a term in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Later she worked with the government of the state of Maine, first in the Department of Education and finally for the School of Nursing in Waterville.In 1957, Margaret was married to Marion Leslie Davis Jr. of Beaufort, N.C. She and Leslie moved from Beaufort to East Vassalboro to live the remainder of their lives in her grandfather's homeplace.Margaret was a dedicated church woman all her life. She loved music and was a member of the church choir as long as she was able, frequently serving as soloist. Community activities were important to her, also. Of special interest was the Vassalboro Historical Society, where she often volunteered and contributed many items of historical interest from her family. She had been a member of the Vassalboro Grange for many years, and was a past lecturer of the Grange, a longtime president of the Vassalboro Senior Citizens, secretary of the Marine Women's Association of Maine, and a member of the Vassalboro Baptist Church Ladies Aide Society.She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie, in 1983; a brother-in-law, Tom I. Davis and his wife, Janet, of Selma, N.C., and another brother-in-law, John D. Davis of Black Mountain, N.C.Margaret was a very loving and thoughtful wife, aunt, sister-in-law and cousin to numerous family members in North Carolina and Canada who will always cherish her memory.Surviving her are her husband's brother, the Rev. Robert Dowd Davis and his wife, Shirley, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Bettye Davis of Black Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews in North Carolina. In Canada she is survived by cousins Frank Tait of St. John, New Brunswick, Hugh Tait of Calgary, Alberta, and Kathy Simister, John Tait, Jeff Tait and Janice King of Woodstock, New Brunswick; and Susan Henry of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.Memorial contributions may be made to: Center Vassalboro Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Pastor Frank Byron, P.O. Box 515, South China, ME 04358.Family and friends will gather at Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville, for visitation on Tuesday, March 28, from noon until the time of the service, which will be conducted by the Rev. Frank Byron at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
