Bates Smith, Marcia LOUDONVILLE Marcia Bates Smith, 87, after a brief illness on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Marcia was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Irwin J. Smith, Jr. and Madeleine Bates Smith. Marcia attended the St. Agnes School and graduated from The Emma Willard School and Edgewood Park Junior College before attending Syracuse University. She was employed in the medical and advertising fields before becoming a pioneer of the Loudonville real estate market. Marcia's entrepreneurial acumen was widely recognized, leading her to be honored as a guest speaker at Russell Sage College. She was also a caring, generous and loving supporter of many who had the great fortune of connecting with her innermost spirit. Marcia is survived by her brother, Irwin J. Smith III; nieces, Kimberly Smith (Bill Murphy), Elizabeth Page Smith and Jennifer Smith Fletcher (Bob Kurick); great-nieces, Arcadia Keefe (Matthew Smith) and Jennifer Keefe; grandnephew, Ethan Fletcher; first-cousins, Bruce Bates and David Bates; and many more treasured relatives and lifelong friends. Marcia was a member of the Albany Institute of History and Art, the Edgartown Yacht Club, The Dutch Settlers Society, The Lake George Club and Schuyler Meadows Country Club. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany. Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday at 2:00 at St. Peter's Protestant Episcopal Church, 107 State Street, Albany. Interment will be held privately at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
