Major John Percival Elliott (1930-2008) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of retired Major John P. Elliott of Medicine Hat, AB on Wednesday, June 4, 2008; husband to Joan; father to Jack, Kim (Susan), Ruth, Sally (Jeff) Meadows, and Garth (Kim); grandfather to Tiffany (Darrel), James, Jenna, Cody, Nicholas, Cooper, Kacia, and Shealyn, and great-grandfather to Jade and James. He was predeceased by his mother, Reta; father, Vern; and sister, Ruby Kew. We are very proud that our dad had a distinguished military career including traveling twice oversees as a United Nations peacekeeper. He was a personal representation to us of all those men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families who have sacrificed for their commitment to our country in both war and peacekeeping missions throughout the world. During his retirement years, Dad spent countless hours documenting the genealogy of our family and ancestors. With a vast breadth of knowledge, great wit, and personal experience of the military, he was a savvy contributor to newspaper and magazine editorial pages and a consultant on various historical publications. Even over the last few years as he slowly became more immobile, his mind remained razor-sharp. In March of this year, Dad's health started to decline, and many of us were able to visit him from across the country. While his health rebounded for a little while, he succumbed rather suddenly. We are thankful that mum was by his side at last breath, and hopeful that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour before his passing.
