ObituaryJohn Whyte formally of Billerica, Massachusetts / stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas passed away on Sunday, 17 April 2005 after being struck by a moving vehicle at the age of 33. John was born and raised in Billerica, Massachusetts before he was congressionally nominated to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. John excelled in academics and was commissioned as an officer in the Infantry. He served in various positions and levels of responsibility in the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd Infantry Division, and recently as a Company Commander in the 3rd Infantry Division. John was a highly decorated veteran of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom receiving both the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge for meritorious actions conducted during combat operations in Iraq in 2003. John was a hero not only to the men and women he led while in the Army, but also to his friends and family. John was a devoted and dedicated husband and father who touched more people in his 33 years than most could do in one hundred.He is survived by his wife Jennifer "Treem" Whyte of Fort Myers, FL; son Jack, and daughter Abigail. John was the son of John Patrick Whyte JR. and Marie Whyte of Billerica, MA, and brother to Anne Moore and Elizabeth Lewis. John Patrick Whyte III will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, friend, Red Sox Fan and hero. Services will be held at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Fl. on the 23rd of April. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Army Emergency Relief Fund (www.aerhq.org).
