Peter M. Stevens LONG ISLAND, Maine - Peter M. Stevens of Long Island, Maine died on August 9, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born in Portland and grew up on Long Island where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Rita 'Peachie' Johnson. They were married 53 years. They had two children, a daughter Lorie of Candia, N.H. and a son Christian, his wife Charity and their daughters Shaun and Julia of Deerfield, N.H. Peter loved many things in life, family, cooking, gardening; strangers would stop to take pictures of his beautiful lily's that were taller than he was and of course his nightly ice cream. Peter and Peachie retired in 2004, Peter from Hilltop Equipment in Chichester, N.H. and Peachie from General Electric in Hooksett, N.H. They left the island at age 21 with the intention of coming back, which they did in 2004. Peters mother Marion (MacVane) Ladd predeceased him and he is survived by his father Ray S. Ladd of Canada; a brother Paul and his wife Joanne of Long Island, a sister Cynthia Ross also of Long Island, another brother Richard and his wife Sarah of Canada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter will be remembered for his willingness and ability to fix golf carts and lawn mowers and always with a smile. Peter also worked at Long Island School as the maintenance person. There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall on Long Island.
