Mrs. Mae Hayes, 70, of Tyrone, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Spry Serenity Chapel, of Florence. The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Hayes graduated with a chemistry degree from the University of North Alabama in 1959. She worked with Aerojet in California, making rocket fuel, and was retired from the State of Alabama as a chemist.The last surviving child of Homer and Tamsie Belle Stutts, she was preceded in death by husband, Melvin Hayes; daughter, Crista Collins Hayes; her parents and her brothers, J.C., Collins, Ensel, Dick, W.L. and Ben.She is survived by her son, Rudjard M. Hayes and wife, Lorraine, of Tyrone, Ga.; daughter, Tamsie Pugh and husband, Jerry, of Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew Sanchez and Olivia Hayes; several nieces and nephews scattered throughout the U.S.Spry Serenity Chapel, Florence, directing.
