Madeleine O'Brien Davis, 101, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Jan. 11, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family. Madeleine was born May 5, 1912, in Greenville, Ohio, daughter to Francis and Anna O'Neill O'Brien. In the early 1940s she moved to New York City where she graduated from the Traphagen School of Design and soon after became a model for the couture hat designer, Madame Pauline. In 1945 Madeleine married the late Chester Davis and moved to Long Island where she was an active member of the Huntington Township Art League. Madeleine and her husband moved their family to Crystal River in the early 1970s, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Extremely active in her community, Madeleine was a member of the Citrus County Art League, taught CCD at St. Benedict Catholic Church, and was a twenty-plus year associate member of the Sisters of Charity. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Joseph Davis; her daughter, Bonnie Torricelli; her son-in-law, Ben Torricelli; granddaughter, Tara Tufo and husband Ken; grandson, Ben Torricelli and wife Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Joslynn, Massimo, and Genevieve. Funeral services will be held at noon Jan. 15, 2014, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Strickland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
