SMITH, Mabel Florence (nee Davies) Passed away peacefully on October 17, 2013. She was the devoted mother of Charles Jr. (Beth), now of Corunna, Ontario, and Belle (Mike B.), now residing in Toronto. Loving grandmother of Tim, Debbie, Dawn, Jo-Ann, Gerry, and Michelle. Great-grandmother of Shannon, Danielle, Tricia, Jennifer, Charles, Robin and Hunter. She will be sorely missed by them, and her sister and brothers and their families whom she nurtured, being the "big sister" in their large family. She will be greatly missed as well, by her dear companion and partner, Len Newman and his daughter Carolyn Sauve (Dennis). Born in Ottawa, Mabel was the oldest daughter of Margaret and Miles Davies. She was raised and educated in Windsor, where she also spent most of her adult life. She and her husband, Charles, who predeceased her, had celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on June 2 in 1986. To relatives, friends and neighbours, she was always a caring and generous person. Mabel was an extremely creative and busy person. She enjoyed gardening, needle crafts, animals, oil painting, and antiques. She was known and written about in the sixties, in the antique collectors' circle, as "The Goblet Lady of Essex County" because of her huge collection of antique pressed glass goblets. She was also the first woman juror of Ontario and was featured in an article in the Windsor Star on January, 1953. Her thoughtfulness and her sense of humour were appreciated by all and she will be remembered fondly by many dear friends. Visitation will be held atMORRIS SUTTON FUNERAL HOME., 68 Giles Blvd., Windsor (519-254-8633) on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be in the chapel on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens. If so desired, memorial donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
