Mrs. Mildred Mae Smith, age 91, of Gloversville, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 5, 2011 with her family at her side at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home where she received excellent care and love from the staff and Dr. Vacek for the past seven years. She was born April 19, 1919, in Gloversville, the daughter of the late George Lewis and Bertha Smith Lewis. She was employed as a glove worker by the former Shreker's Glove Company and also worked as a nanny for several years as well as at the former Bleecker Street Nursery as a daycare worker. Mrs. Smith was a member of the North Main St. United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband when he was in the Army. She also enjoyed ceramics, cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and making Christmas ornaments with her late husband. They would donate some of the ornaments to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need. On December 24, 1941, Mildred was married to Henry H. "Hank" Smith who died April 4, 2007. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon L. Rogers (William) of Gloversville; two grandchildren, Trisha L. Rogers-Byrns (Todd) and David H. Rogers (Melissa); four great-grandchildren, Kody Jamison Rogers, Alexander Gabriel Rogers, Zachary Daniel Byrns and Aubrey Leigh Byrns. She was predeceased by her brothers, John W. Lewis and Carleton G. Lewis. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A private funeral service will take place at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in East Galway Cemetery.
