POWELL, MICHAEL THOMAS, of Birmingham passed away on Friday May 6th 2011 at the age of 61. Mike was a retired Lieutenant with the Birmingham Fire Department where he served for 24 years. He was also a member of the National Homebuilders Society for 30 years. He was employed at Birmingham Southern Railroad for the past 14 years. He is preceded in death by his father Ralph T. Powell and his mother Ellen T. Powell. He is survived by his wife Valerie, daughter Lisa Powell Bailey and her husband Chris Bailey of Irondale, son Michael T. Powell Jr., brother John T. Powell and his wife Vilinda of Pleasant Grove, nephew John Michael Powell, grandchildren Benjamin and Ella Kate Bailey, stepsons Ryan Johnson and Kyle Dodson, and many cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist of Church of Pleasant Grove at Stokes Chapel on Monday May 9th at 2PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: www.lymphoma.org.
