MONTGOMERY-HARRIS, MATTIE BELL, the daughter of the late Oscar and Mattie Montgomery was born March 28, 1926 in Bainbridge, GA. She grew up in Bainbridge and graduated from Union Normal High School in 1944. She married Ezell Harris Sr. on April 14, 1951 and together they raised nine children. She and her family relocated from Orlando to Rochester, NY in 1953. Mattie was employed by Birdseye Canning Factory and General Motors. She retired from General Motors in 1991. Mattie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a compassionate caregiver who went far beyond the call of duty. If it was feeding you, clothing you, providing you a place to stay or helping you out in an emergency, Mattie's kindness and generosity knew no end. She was truly one of the most beautiful individuals that a person could meet. Mattie confessed to Christ at an early age and was a member of New Salem Freewill Baptist Church into early adulthood. In November 1964 she joined Greater Deliverance Church C.O.O.L.J.C. of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of the late Pastor William Brooks, Sr. Over the years she served as a church secretary, trustee board member, missionary president, church mother and lastly district church mother. Mattie finished her tour of duty October 15, 2003. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Ezell Harris Sr.; four sons, Ezell "EZ" Harris Jr. of Orlando, FL, Ben (Zella) Harris of Greensboro, NC, Kenneth Harris, Carl (Rosie) Harris of Rochester, NY; five daughters, Rosa Harris, Lola Harris, Deborah (Larry) Pearson, Carol (Curtis) Robinson, Lillie Hurst all of Rochester, NY; one brother Matthew Montgomery of Orlando, FL; five sisters, Classie Rambo, Edith (Emory) Middleton of Bainbridge, GA, Ruby Montgomery, Lacy (Arthur) Davis, Mary Nathan all of Rochester, NY; three sisters-in-law, Eloise Moore, Retha (Archie) Johnson of Rochester, NY, Jewel Montgomery, wife of the late Elder Moses Montgomery, of Orlando, FL; dear cousin Odessa (Eddie) Sheppard; 34 four grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Rochester, NY October 21, 2003.
