Matthew-George Moore, born in 1920, spouse of Lori Brandt, son of George and Florence, father of Matthew, Sandy, Michael and John, died on November 23, 2006 at 86 years old.
Matthew George "Rocky" Moore, a lifetime area resident, died on Thursday, November 23, 2006. He was 86 years old. Matthew was born in White Plains, NY on August 21, 1920, the son of George and Florence Moore. He was a graduate of White Plains High School. A staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp., he served his country during World War II as a ball turret gunner. He plane was shot down on April 24, 1944 and he was a prisoner of war in Stalag 17 B from June 1944 until liberation in May 1945. Upon return to civilian life, Mr. Moore spent over fifty years working for Metro North Railroad, retiring in 1993. In 1974, he married Lori Brandt and spent the last twenty-eight years living in Yorktown Heights. He enjoyed watching golf and all sports, as well as his bi-weekly trips to the lotto store. His real joy in life came from his grandchildren and his love of family and friends. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Lori Moore; son, Matthew H. "Jo Jo" (Peggy) Moore, daughter, Sandy Gustaferro; sons, Michael (Stephanie) and John (Jennifer) Carravone, nine grandchildren, Marissa Nolan, Melanie Moore, Michelle Yearwood, Meaghan Hartman, Philip Matthew Gustaferro, Matthew, Grace, Scott and Faith Carravone; sister, Vivian Farrell, and dear sister-in-law, Una Price. A Funeral Service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, November 28 at the First Baptist Church, Peekskill. Visiting at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, Peekskill on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Christopher Reeve Foundation at 636 Morris Turnpike, Ste. 3A, Short Hills, NJ 07078 are greatly appreciated
