MARY SIMANEK LARSON ARLINGTON, Va. / MIDDLEBURY - Mary Simanek Larson, the wife of Charles J. Larson, passed away on May 1, 2010, in Middlebury. She was born in Dodge, Neb., on Dec. 28, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Bess (Hausner) Simanek. She was a graduate of Dodge High School and The Univ. of Nebraska with a teaching degree. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Glew, a Foreign Service Officer. Their tours of duty took them to Milan, Italy, Tokyo and Kuala Lampur. She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Larson, who met the Glews in Italy where both were promoting US agricultural products under programs of the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. Following the deaths of Mr. Glew and Nadine Ballou Larson, Mary and Charles were married in 1988. They traveled widely in Europe, South America, and Caribbean areas. Mary was a past President of the Washington/Tokyo Women's Club and member of the Women's Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra. She was also employed as a legal secretary in the DC area. Mary touched the hearts of many, from the members of her adopted family, whom she lovingly embraced, to countless friends and associates from around the world with whom she connected regularly. Besides her husband, she leaves her adopted family including David and Judith Larson of Addison, Rebecca Larson of Burlington, Kristin and Bill Benton of Vergennes, Mary Beth and Philip Drumheller of Shelburne, and Paul and Janice Ballou of Forney, TX; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on May 15 at Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, South 23rd St., Arlington, VA. A reception will follow at the Army /Navy Country Club, Army/Navy Drive, Arlington.
