MARY RUTH NEELYSMITH, 88 WINTER HAVEN - Mary Ruth Neely Smith of Winter Haven, 88, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, of heart failure. Born Nov. 7, 1924, in Jackson, Tenn., Mary was the third of Herbert E. and Lee E. Neely's five daughters. After moving to Florida in 1960, Mary worked with the Polk County Health Dept. screening students for hearing problems and later was a lab technician at the University of Florida's Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Al Smith (Suzie Schottelkotte) of Bartow, and her daughter, Mary Lee Murphy of Winter Haven; one sister, Kate Harrison of Memphis; grandchildren Taylor Smith, Lauren Smith and Shawn Murphy; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Toby and Brittany Murphy. A visitation/memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven.
