VALENTINE, MARY "JO" MCCARTER - age 80 of Seymour, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2014. Mrs. Valentine was born October 20, 1933 in the Oak City community, where she was raised and became a member of Oak City Baptist Church where she loved to sing in the choir and served as choir director at one time. She was a former employee of Levi Strauss and Standard Knitting Mills. Mrs. Valentine was well known for her pecan pies and potato salad and for her Sunday feasts on race days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Valentine; parents, Raymond and Hazel (Gibson) McCarter; in-laws, Alex and Grace Valentine; and niece, Kimberley McCarter. She is survived by: daughter: Becky Valentine Cannon Sanderson and husband Tom; grandchildren: Blake Cannon, Lea Ann and Michael Lund, Jill and Kevin Schilling, Mary Beth Sanderson, Amy and Kevin Laman, Caroline and Blake Herron; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Parker, and Mallory Lund, Jude Herron, Elise Laman, and Joseph Schilling; brother and sister-in-law: Hubert and Helen McCarter; sister and brother-in-law: Una Vee and Wayne Elliott; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Estalee Newcomb, Roy and Becky Valentine, Bill and Barbara Valentine, Richard and Linda Valentine, Patsy and Homer King, Barbara Jean King, and Oscar Valentine; special nieces: Teresa Poe and Tina Johnson; many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, and friends from Oak City Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to JPA Ministries, "Slippers for Our Savior", P.O. Box 914, Seymour, TN 37865. Funeral service 7:00 PM Wednesday at Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. W.A. Galyon, and Rev. Bryan Creswell officiating. Interment 10:00 AM Thursday in Boyd's Creek Cemetery.
