HUGHES, MARY JOAN, 81Ocala - Mary Joan Hughes, 81, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Estelle's House, in Ocala, FL. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 21, 1931. The family moved to Florida from Schuylerville, NY when she was a child. As a young woman, she enjoyed basketball, motorcycle riding, stock car racing and was an accomplished pianist. After relocating to Ocala in 1997, she was very active in her community at Wellington Station, serving as a board member and secretary. She enjoyed her "Bunco" groups, lunching with friends and traveling. She led a very full and active life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John B. Hughes, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Kathie Arnold (Butch) of Ocala and Patricia Hughes of Lebanon, TN and her sons, John B. Hughes, III of Alachua, FL and Jeffrey Hughes (Kaye) of Ft. Pierce, FL; along with seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, 606 SW 2nd Ave., Ocala, FL 34471.
