Obituary of Mary-Jewel Powell


POWELL, Mrs. Mary Jewel, age 82 of Oxford, Alabama, passed away August 15, 2005 at Regional Med-ical Center in Anniston, AL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Au-gust 18, 2005 at 11:00 am from the Antioch Baptist Church in Elmore County, AL with Rev. Tom Clemons officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Survivors are: two daughters, Anita Julia Pruitt of Jacksonville, AL, Janet Kay Denney of Hanceville, AL; two sons, Rev. Ed-die Isaac Powell of Union City, TN and Alan James Powell of Tallade-ga, AL; one sister, Sarah Barnes of Columbus, GA; one brother, Ed-ward Culver of Ft. Smith, AK; eight grandchildren and 15 great grand-children. Mrs. Powell is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Pow-ell. Active pallbearers are Anthony Powell, Joe Mann, Charles Powell, John Powell, Andrew Powell, Adam Pruitt and Timothy Pruitt. Mrs. Powell was a native of Elmore County Ala-bama, but had lived many years in Gadsden, Alabama and Calhoun, Alabama. She was a homemaker and a retired cosmotologist for some 30 years. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Ox-ford, Alabama for the past 15 years. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday from 6 pm until 9 pm. Mrs. Powell will lie in state for one hour prior to service at the church.
