Obituary of Mary-Elizabeth Johnson


JOHNSON, MARY ELIZABETH, of Ann Arbor MI and formerly of Seminole, FL, Washington, DC and Louisville, KY passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Mrs. Johnson was born in Louisville, KY on August 26, 1910, eldest daughter of Thomas David and Mary Catherine (Wittig) Mitchell. She married Albert Sidney Johnson, in 1939 and they lived in Washington DC, where he served as Deputy Commissioner of Customs for the U.S. government. She and her husband retired to Florida in 1972, where they intensely enjoyed the good weather and the good company of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sisters, Dorothy Guntermann and Lillian Savage. She was the beloved mother of Karen (Berislav) Primorac, of Ann Arbor, MI and Diane Johnson-Jaeckel, of Silver Lake, NY; cherished "Grand Mary" of four grandchildren, Robert Primorac (Amy), of Monroe, CT, Kristina Waggoner (Jon), of Ann Arbor, MI, Peter Schlosser (Vanessa), of Los Angeles, CA and Carey Dougherty (Jim), of Monroe, CT; and of five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Melinda, Michael, Maya, Olivia and Lauren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A private burial service will take place at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY, at a later date.
