PORTER, MARION ANNE JEWETT, 94Annapolis, MD - Marion Anne Jewett Porter, a Florida native and long time resident of Coral Gables, Florida died in Annapolis, MD, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 of cardiac failure. Anne Porter dedicated her life to her family and to the community. Born in Ocala, FL to Stephen and Janet Ferguson Weathers in 1919, she graduated from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) with a BS in Home Economics. While in Tallahassee, she met William M. Porter, who she married in 1941, just after graduation. After their marriage and a short assignment in Louisiana, they moved to Portland, OR for the duration of the war effort. In Portland, their first two sons were born, John Moring and Benjamin Stephen. After the war, Bill and Anne Porter moved to Coral Gables, FL where David Jewett and Anne Weathers Porter were born. In the early 50's, Anne's brother Stephen Jewett moved to Coral Gables from Ocala to be near his needed medical care. Steve became another member of the family while he went through multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. Anne was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove, FL, was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, a member of the National Society of the American Revolution, and was a life member of the Jewett Family of America. The Porters moved to Ginger Cove in Annapolis in 1992, shortly after Hurricane Andrew took a toll on the Miami area. They became a fixture in the Ginger Cove complex and have continuously contributed to the community there. Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her husband William M. Porter, Annapolis, MD and her eldest son John, also of Annapolis. She is survived by her daughter Anne Gallagher, Alexandria, VA, her sons David J. Porter, Holland, PA, Benjamin S. Porter, Kittery, ME, and five grandchildren: Will Porter, Keith Porter, Erik Porter, Jackie Gallagher, and Kevin Gallagher. Memorial Services will be held at Ginger Cove, Annapolis, MD, at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 1, 2014. Burial will be in Ocala, FL, and will be private. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to: Employee Scholarship Fund, Ginger Cove Foundation, 4000 River Crescent Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401.
