MARION M. (MURPHY) HOAR ST. JOHNSBURY - Mrs. Marion Hoar of St. Johnsbury passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011. Marion was well known for her artistry in hand crafts such as sewing, knitting, crocheting, rug making, and quilting, having appeared on Channel 3 displaying her work. In 1952, she and her husband opened their St. Johnsbury store on Railroad Street called 'Modern Home Appliances'. After Mr. Hoar's death in 1991, Marion moved to Burlington to be nearer to family. She came to the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center in 2006. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Edward; her sister, Irene Hutchins; two sons-in-law, Allan Merritt Sr. and David J. Bixby. Surviving are four children, Beverly Merritt of Rutland, Betty McCarthy and husband, James, of Ocala, Fla., Marilyn Bixby of Shelburne, William Hoar and wife, Ila, of Barnet; 10 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Sunday at 1 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions could be directed to South Congregational Church, 1052 Main Street, St. Johnsbury VT 05819. Sayles Funeral Home is located at 525 Summer St. in St. Johnsbury.
