Margaret Roth, born in 1915, spouse of David Roth, died on September 21, 2010. Please consult the obituary here:
ROTH Margaret March, June 16, 1915 - September 21, 2010. Beloved wife of David, beloved mother of Lisa and Jane, and blessed grandmother of Devra and Matthew. Raised in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and graduating from Case Western University, Margaret studied theater in London during the 1930's and was rescued at the beginning of the Blitzkreig by her own mother. She settled in New York, where she worked for Life magazine, Look Magazine, and Newsweek, from which she was fired for union organizing for the Newspaper Guild. An ardent leftist, she remained active politically until the early 1950's when she met and married Dr. David Roth, the great love of her life, for whom she converted to Judaism. She had wonderful and strange funny stories about all of the people, famous, infamous, and strange, whom she had met or known. In 1967, she returned to school to achieve an education degree, and in the 1970's she completed a Master's degree at Columbia Teacher's College which she had begun 40 years earlier. She continued to be involved with theater through The Paterson Players and later through film courses she taught for adult education at Bergen Community College. She and her husband of 59 years traveled frequently and extensively, enjoyed the arts, music, and lectures. When he took up skiing in their late middle age, she did too, although she was not athletic and viewed the outdoors with suspicion. She loved the beauty of the ballet and of sycamore trees. As she traveled through life she took on the inner journey as well as the outer and through her own determination and strength, left life happier, more fulfilled, and accepting of herself. There will never be anyone like you, Nellie, and we hate to see you go." A memorial service will 2:00 PM, Friday, September 24, 2010 at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West) Fair Lawn, NJ. Memorial donations in memory of Margaret Roth may be made to Planned Parenthood of Greater Northern New Jersey.
