Margaret Mary Davis, 97, of Saint Lawrence O'Toole Parish, Brewster, NY from 1973 and previously of the Bronx, NY, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at The Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury, CT. Margaret was born on July 10, 1907 in Brooklyn, NY to Hugh and Margaret (Tyrrell) Davitt. Married in Saint Benedict's Church, Bronx, NY to Edward F. Davis on September 29, 1934. Survived by daughters: Peggy Lydon (husband, Frank deceased) from Bloomingdale, NJ; Patricia Del Cogliano (husband, Edward) from Hyde Park, NY and son, Edward J. Davis (FDNY retired) from Brewster, NY and sister, Catherine Murphy from Port Richey, FL. Grandchildren: Linda, Karen, Mark, Kelly, Michelle, Nicole and Barry. Great-grandchildren: Shannon, Jennifer, Ryan, Stephanie, Steven, Elizabeth, Ashley, Asha, Jacob, Matthew, Connor. Predeceased by husband, Edward (Red) Davis on May 30, 1964; sisters: Elizabeth (Lydia) Anderson, Geraldine (Jerry) Fulling, Mary (Dolly) Weeks; and brothers: John (Sonny) Davitt and Hugh (Bud) Davitt. Margaret will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who had the ability to make everyone feel special. She had the gift of laughter, usually spreading it to all who listened. She loved gardening, baking and knitting for her family. Margaret worked for Western Union in the 1930's and the Reuben H. Donnelly Corporation for 17 years before retiring in 1972. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 17, 9:45 am, at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster. Interment will follow in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx. Viewing hours are today from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Beecher F.H., Brewster. Contributions in her memory may be made to Catholic Charities.
