Margaret "Peggy" Mary Carter (nee McCarthy), of Carmel, died unexpectedly on November 10, 2004 of heart disease. She was born August 11, 1933, Bronx, NY to Margaret Agnes and John McCarthy. She married Raymond J. Carter on April 26, 1952. They moved to Carmel in 1954. Loving mother to Raymond, Thomas (wife, Oli), Margaret K. (husband, Raymond), Kathryn (husband, William), Susanne (husband, Salvatore) and Michael (wife, Carol). Her Grandchildren are Michelle, Erin and Robin Mascio, Michael and Ali Carter, Sal, Laura and Anthony Farruggia and Jason, Raymond, Margaret and Tara Indelicato. Loving sister to Elizabeth Kreitzman (husband, Howie) of Washington, DC; Kathleen Threkeld (husband, Jon) of Big Pine Key, FL; Tom McCarthy (wife, Janet) of Danbury, CT, and Jack McCarthy (wife, Barbara) of Carmel, NY. Loving aunt to 11 nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her parents. Peggy graduated from Preston High in the Bronx. Peggy worked at Matthew Patterson Elementary School as a reading aide in the 1970's then at Putnam County Dept. of Social Services. She touched many young lives in her role there as an adoptive worker and case worker. After retirement, she was a member and president of the Children's Committee of Putnam County. Throughout her adult life, she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and was very active at St. James Catholic Church. Peggy and Ray have enjoyed the past six winters in Fort Myers, FL, where Peggy enjoyed golf and the Red Hat Society. She had many, many friends both in Carmel and in Florida. Both her family and friends will miss her dearly. Services will be held at Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel, with a Funeral Mass at St. James the Apostle. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY 10512 (845)225-3672. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday at St. James the Apostle Church at 11 am. Memorial donations can be made to The Putnam County Children's Committee, P.O, Box 187, Carmel, NY 10512.
