Margaret-Elizabeth-Warren Jordan, born in 1910, spouse of Edwin-N. Jordan, daughter of George and Naomi-Coale, mother of Elizabeth, Jr and Edwin N, died on April 14, 2008 at 97 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
JORDAN, Margaret Elizabeth Warren, 97 years old, died after a brief illness on April 14, 2008. She was born in Jackson, Alabama to George Gordon and Naomi Coale Warren on October 5, 1910. She received her undergraduate degree from Huntingdon College, where she was a member of the John Massey Heritage Society, and her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. She was one of the first social workers in the nation having begun her career in 1935, when the Social Security Act was signed into law. After receiving her Master's Degree she began working at the Cook County Department of Public Welfare in Chicago, Illinois. She later returned to her beloved Alabama where she was inducted into the Huntingdon College Hall of Fame. She was instrumental in setting up what is now known as the Montgomery County Department of Human Resources. In 1936 she was chosen by Commissioner Albert Collins to create a program of research and statistics. She headed the Bureau of Management Information until 1979, when Commissioner Gary Cooper appointed her as his Special Assistant in Research and Statistics. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. She also served on the church's Administration Board, where Dr. Karl Stegall appointed her a lifetime member of the board. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin N. Jordan, Sr. and her son Edwin N. Jordan, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Stark(Scoot) , a daughter-in-law, Jan Jordan, two granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Stark and Emily Christine Wagoner (Kurt), grandson John Neil Jordan, three great-grandchildren, Alex, Isaac and Annabelle. Pallbearers will be Jim Jordan, Tim Jordan, Jon Jordan, Tom Warren, John Koehler and Lee Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. A Memorial service will be Sunday, April 20th at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service, in the Friendship Room ofthe church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church Youth Missionsor Boy's Town, Omaha, Nebraska, or to Montgomery County Department of Human Resources Child Welfare Program.
