PETERSON, Lynne Anne (nee Cook) Lynne A. Peterson, known in family circles as Auntie Anne and Lynne Anne, passed away at about 2:00 p.m. at the Victoria Hospice October 5th, 2011, in her beloved city of Victoria from numerous cancerous tumours. She was born on September 12, 1945 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan to John (Jack) Laughlin Cook and Millicent Agatha Williams. Lynne graduated as an R.N. in 1965, from Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg where she worked for a year. She and three other nursing friends travelled around Europe at which time a serious car accident changed her life forever. In the Fall of 1969, knowing she couldn't work as an R.N., she enrolled in the University of Saskatoon, graduating in three years with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then immediately moved to B.C. due to the prairie climate. Lynne worked for one year doing heart research in Vancouver for a group of doctors, then moved to Victoria to work as a public health nurse. This was the job for her, staying at the job until retiring just prior to age 65. Lynne is survived by three sons, Grant and twin brothers, David and John; one brother; two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dale Peterson; father, John Cook in 1984; mother, Millicent in 2011 and an infant brother. Lynne loved to play bridge and prior to the arrival of her immediate family, she travelled to places like Vegas and Hawaii to play competitive bridge. Lynne was very rich with many great friends, she always demonstrated such compassion for her family, siblings and friends. The family are so grateful for the many flowers, various goodies etc., that were given to Lynne during her final weeks. Lynne will always be remembered for her heartfelt kindness and compassion and her fighting spirit. The family is ever so grateful for the care and compassion demonstrated by the Victoria Hospice at Richmond Pavilion, the B.C. Cancer Society and all of the volunteers at the Hospice; they are just so compassionate. A Celebration of her life will take place on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Drive, in Royal Oak (Saanich) with a reception to follow. Cremation. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Lynne can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria BC V8R 6V5 or BC Schizophrenia Society-Victoria, Branch, 941 Kings Road, Victoria, BC V8T 1W7.
