LYLE RAYMOND HYDE PARK - Lyle Raymond, 86, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born Sept. 4, 1922 in Stowe, the son of Albert and Ruby Shaw Raymond. He was a 1940 graduate of Stowe High School. He was one of the first to work on the first single-chair lift at Mount Mansfield. Lyle served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a charter member for 55 years of VFW Post #9653 in Morrisville. He previously served on the Hyde Park Water & Light Board, was active with Boy Scouts in Hyde Park and was a former member of the Stowe Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and seldom missed the opening day of fishing season regardless of the weather. He was also an avid Red Sox fan and loved to work in his garden. Lyle is survived by his children, Eric Raymond of Burlington and Lynn Raymond of Richford; two brothers, Albert Raymond, Jr., of North Carolina and Sears Raymond of Underhill; two sisters, Vera Porter of Burlington and Carol Fisher of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Anita Smith Raymond in 1996 and two sisters, Nancy Wesson and Priscilla Mandigo. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at the White-Fiess Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in the spring in Jedediah Hyde Cemetery.
