Mrs. Lucy Bittner Smith March 29, 2011 Mrs. Lucy Bittner Smith, 84, of Baldwinsville and formerly of the north side of Syracuse passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Syracuse Home surrounded by her loving nieces. Native and life resident of the Syracuse area, Lucy was one of 11 children born to Charles and Clara Bittner. The Bittners all resided at 110 Michaels Avenue, which is the present site of Francis House. She was a communicant of both Assumption and St. John the Baptist churches. Lucy was employed as the Corporate Secretary and as a Licensed Insurance Broker for Ridings Insurance Agency for 16 years retiring in 1988. Lucy studied voice at Syracuse University and sang in several choirs and bands throughout the Central New York area. She was an avid reader and walker. Survived by: her daughter, an artist, Cynthia Smith of Brooklyn and Vermont; two sisters, Bernice Barth of Baldwinsville, Loretta Styring of Syracuse, many loving and devoted nieces and nephews spanning several generations. Funeral services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 406 Court Street, Syracuse. Burial in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, 900 N. Salina Street. Contributions: Unity Acres, P.O. Box 153, Orwell, New York 13426.
