Lucy Spain Jackson of Luverne, Alabama passed away peacefully at home as she slept on Friday, October 17, 2014. Lucy was born in Montgomery on April 20, 1929 to Mattie Olga and Robert Edgar Spain. Lucy had one sister, Lottie Virginia (Hugh) Narramore. She attended Huntingdon College, graduated from the University of Alabama, was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and was Miss Tuscaloosa 1949. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James William Jackson; her children, Robert Warren (Phyllis) Jackson, James William (Lucy) Jackson, Jr., and Virginia Jackson (George) Jones; seven grandchildren, James William (Maryanna) Jackson, III, Elinor Jackson (Jack) Phillips, Frances Martin Jackson, George William Jackson (Katarina) Jones, Lillian Virginia Jones, Judd Francis (Kim) Ledet, and Todd Brennan Ledet; and one great granddaughter, Emma Claire Ledet. Lucy truly loved everyone, her heart was full of music. She shared that love with grammar school students in Luverne, Highland Home, Brantley, and Goshen. In 1999, Lucy was selected as Crenshaw County Citizen of the Year. She remains a part of all who knew and loved her. Lucy was a devoted wife, a selfless mother, a charitable citizen, and a constant giver. Her family wishes to thank her loving friends, Glenda Webb, Edna Horn, and Ruth Coleman. A service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11AM at the Luverne United Methodist Church, with visitation prior, from 9:30 until 11. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery at 3PM. Memorial suggestions include, the Luverne United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Children's Home, and Crenshaw Christian Academy.
